Thumb Joint Spica Wrist Splint

This thumb spica wrist brace for treatment of de Quervain’s Syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis or any other condition for which immobilization of the MP and/or CMC thumb joint is necessary can easily be customized to fit a patient’s needs. The wrist brace/thumb spica has a number of removable and adjustable components that enable a user to tweak the brace as needed.

Thumb Spica Wrist Brace

This thumb spica wrist brace can immobilize the metacarpophalangeal joint (MP) and carpometacarpal joint (CMC) of the thumb for treatment of conditions such de Quervain’s syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis or a sprained thumb, to name a few.

This CMC joint brace is convenient in that it only immobilizes the thumb; other fingers are left unrestricted. In fact, contouring at the palmar crease makes the brace especially accommodating for full finger movement. The CMC thumb support also has extra contouring at the MP of the fifth finger (pinky) to allow for palmar spread (splaying the fingers).

The aluminum stay of this spica thumb brace can be removed for a more flexible fit, or it can be left in place for more support. There is also a removable thumb stay to give users options as to support and immobilization.

The multiple loop-and-lock closures of this thumb spica splint make it easy to adjust and secure the support. If the the strap ends are too long, you can cut off the excess material. This wrist and thumb brace extends up the arm for added support to the wrist and forearm. Sizes XS and S are 7″ long and sizes M-XL are 8″ long. CMC Thumb Joint Brace

De Quervain’s disease is a condition affecting the tendons that control the movement of the thumb (located in the wrist area) that causes pain and swelling. Since the cause of this condition is thought to be repetitive motions of the hand or wrist, giving the tendons involved in such motions a rest is a key component of treatment. A CMC joint can also be helpful in reducing the painful swelling of the joints associated with rheumatoid arthritis. Treatment for this condition largely involves pain management and learning how best to protect the joints.
